Picked On or Picked?

February 19, 2007 | 2 Comments

It’s been over a week since my last podcast. I just came off of a 4 day cruise and it was a much needed vacation. However, I am eager to get back and start podcasting inspirational messages. This message has been on my mind for a week and it is all about your attitude in life. Keith Harrell, author of, Attitude is Everything, describes your attitude as determining your altitude. Sit back and enjoy and determine if you are being picked on or being picked.

How Anyone Who’s A Nobody Can Become Somebody

February 8, 2007 | Leave a Comment

Please understand, I don’t mean to call anyone a nobody. I simply thought that this title would certainly be an attention grabbing title. It also reminds me of an old church song we use to sing many years ago. In this podcast you will learn how you can begin to become a recognizable name and expert in your industry.

Key points to becoming a recognized expert:

  • You must market yourself as an expert
  • Build rapport and associate yourself with other industry leaders
  • Let other people know that you are good
  • Join associations and user groups

In this final series of Performance Evaluations, I want to discuss the techniques taught in the last two episodes and really do a deep dive into the psychological aspect of why the activity that I have encouraged you to do is important. From this discussion you will learn how you should think and what steps you should take if things do not go as you have planned. The key is GROWTH! Learn why I say: Move Up or Move Out!

Performance Evaluation - Part 2

February 2, 2007 | Leave a Comment

In our last podcast, Performance Evaluations Part 1, we discussed the documentation needed in order to ensure a successful outcome. In this podcast, we will go into depth how you should handle yourself during this process.

You will learn to ask your manager four distinct questions:

  1. Based on my past performance as documented, what type of promotions or salary increases would I be eligible for?
  2. In order that I continue to feel that I am progressing forward in my career, what is the possibilty of the company sending me to a couple of training programs that I have an interest in attending?
  3. What can the company offer to an employee like myself who wants to grow their career to the next level?
  4. What do I need to do by the next evaluation period to be eligible for a promotion?

In the next session, you will learn what the answers to these questions mean to you. This will give you direction regarding what action plans you should be putting together in order to get to the next rung in your career ladder.
